Project Goodies, Goodies SCIO

Goodies redirects food and resources to reduce waste, support people and build community! We collect surplus food and other items from around Edinburgh and beyond that would otherwise end up in landfill, and redistribute them to those on low incomes or those living below the poverty line, whilst also operating a community cafe that provides healthy food, and a safe, warm, friendly space.

 

Storytelling and Breakfast, Pregnancy and Parents Centre

This Storytelling and Breakfast pilot will engage with women living in areas of multiple deprivation, who are experiencing issues of isolation, food poverty, inadequate housing and who are impacted by the cost of living crisis. The PPC supports the emotional and physical health of pregnant women and mothers, and we wish to provide equal access to our activities for all women.

 

SuitAble - A tailored way back into employment, Grassroots Clothing

Supporting disadvantaged men in the city by issuing freeto keep interview clothing, shoes and hygiene packs. Increasing personal self worth, potential and reducing barriers to employment.

 

Dumbiedykes Community Growers: Rainwater Collection, Edible Estates (on behalf of Dumbiedykes Community Growers)

Dumbiedykes Community Growers (DCG), supported by Edible Estates, is establishing a community growing space where everyone can pick herbs and greens, and benefit from small crops throughout the year. They compost green waste and want to collect rainwater with the dual benefit of reducing pressure on mains water supply and providing an accessible water supply for their allotment space.

 

New Scots Digital Connect, Science Ceilidh (in partnership with Multicultural Family Base and Lirio Academy)

This programme will connect UoE researchers and students with New Scots through a partnership with Multicultural Family Base (MCFB). Throughout 10 weekly sessions, the MCFB Safe Haven project Men’s group will develop digital literacy alongside other essential skills such as English language skills and cooking, while supporting cross-cultural exchange and learning with UoE students and staff.

 

Heavy Sound 16+ Sports Pilot Project, Heavy Sound CIC

The new 16+ Programme will offer disadvantaged young people the opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing and build interpersonal awareness by learning new skills in sports and fitness. To do this , Heavy Sound will purchase gym equipment to create a stimulating space and increase the hours of their sports coach to allow him to run this pilot project.

 

Growing to Love, Edinburgh Community Food

Edinburgh Community Food will work with VegPower to design ‘Grow Boxes’ for delivery to 35 Edinburgh schools, fulfilling their project mission of getting children learning about vegetables from seed to plate. Their ‘Grow Boxes’ will be ready-to-go packs for sessions containing compost, propagators, seeds and a resource pack with inspiration and lesson plans for community staff including teachers and play workers.

 

Welcome Kits, Re-Act: Refugee Action Scotland

This project works with ReuseIT and Edinburgh Council to provide a welcome kit to unaccompanied youths arriving in Edinburgh as refugees or asylum seekers. The project provides a laptop, rice cooker, and welcome backpack to each individual.

 

Improving Emotional Wellbeing in West Lothian, Bridge Community Project

The Bridge Community Project will deliver vital emotional wellbeing support to individuals in West Lothian. Through groups, courses, and 1 to 1 counselling, the project aims to empower people to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

 

Adaptive Surfing Equipment, Inclusive Surfing Scotland

Inclusive Surfing Scotland is a newly established charity, whose purpose is to offer fully adaptive surfing sessions to children and adults with disabilities that would otherwise limit their access to the waves. Their mantra is that surfing is for everyone! They are breaking down the barriers that limit access to surfing and deliver bespoke sessions tailored to meet the needs of each individual.

 

Peer Support Group for People with an Eating Disorder, SupportED

A fortnightly peer support group for people in Edinburgh living with an Eating Disorder(ED). The group allows people with an ED to share their experience with others and learn to address their challenges with the support of a trained volunteer.

 

Space to grieve, Cruse Scotland Bereavement Support

This project will give bereaved people a new opportunity to meet up with others going a similar experience to share and support each other. The group will particularly target people who feel acute loneliness and isolation as a result of their bereavement.

Midlothian STEM* Grants

Big Dig Dalkeith, Archaeology Scotland

The project will offer people of all ages from Midlothian the opportunity to come together to uncover the area’s past by taking part in an archaeological dig at Newbattle Abbey supported by Archaeology students from the University of Edinburgh. Participants will develop STEM skills while increasing their knowledge of the heritage of the area in a supportive, intergenerational learning environment.

 

Midlothian Primary Schools Vex Go Expo, National Mining Museum Scotland (NMMS) Trust

In this Midlothian schools-wide project in partnership with The National Robotarium and Hands On!, Primary 7 pupils will learn about engineering design processes and materials, then work in teams to design their own machines using VEX GO. The pupils’ learning and designs will be brought together in an expo-style event hosted by National Mining Museum Scotland (NMMS).

 

Survival Through a STEM Lens, Trees and Seas Outdoor Adventures

This programme teaches essential survival skills using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) principles. Participants learn to purify water, build fire, create tools and shelters, all while gaining a deeper understanding of the science behind these vital skills.
