The University’s Community Plan was approved in September 2020 and included a commitment to restructuring the Community Engagement Programme Board (CEPB). This change took place so that the membership can effectively deliver on the different commitments in the Community Plan; reflect the cross-University scope of those commitments; and show the University’s commitment to inclusiveness and accessibility by including a representative from a community partner. The Community Board is responsible for monitoring the University’s progress against Community Plan commitments, and holds a more detailed implementation plan that outlines how each commitment will be met. Remit of Community BoardEnsure the successful delivery of the Community Plan by establishing measures to judge success against, ensuring reporting against these takes place, and helping to resolve potential obstacles to success by influencing colleagues and other action appropriate to their professional role. Provide strategic direction for further priorities if required.Champion the “whole institution” approach of the Community Plan by advocating for the Community Plan and embedding the Community Plan within campus, College, school, professional group and organisational activities and priorities. If there are gaps identified in Board membership, agree on further representation from colleagues, or community partners, with consideration of equality and diversity.Connecting Community Plan to priorities and activities of community partners (geographical and communities of interest) across Edinburgh and South East Scotland, with a particular focus on our nearer neighbours and harder to reach communities.Generate, discuss and evaluate potential new priorities and ideas not within the scope of the currently approved Community Plan.Receive reports from the University’s Community Team for discussion and endorsement, and providing any further guidance requested by the TeamWork with Edinburgh University Students’ Association and the Community Team to identify ways to increase student representation in university community engagement activities.Responsibilities of Community BoardPositively contribute to the successful implementation and embedding of the Community Plan in the area of the University or organisation they represent on the Board, which may be broader than that of their day-to-day professional role.Actively participate in overseeing the progress and delivery of the Community Plan’s implementation plan.Actively participate in quarterly minuted meetings.Supported by the Community Team in drafting, provide an annual progress report to the University’s Social and Civic Responsibility Committee and ensure annual public reports are prepared and published online, again supported by the Community Team.Members of Community BoardLynn McMath, Deputy Director, Stakeholder Relations, Communications and Marketing Patricia Erskine, Head of Stakeholder Relations & Policy Officer, College Office – CAHSS Dave Gorman, Director of Social Responsibility and SustainabilityAnne-Sofie Laegran, Head of Knowledge Exchange and Impact, Edinburgh Research OfficeJacky MacBeath, Head of Museums, Museums Lesley McAra, Director of IASH, as well as AP Community RelationsDerek MacLeod, Head of Global Partnerships, Edinburgh Global Hazel Lambert, Head of Engagement, Communications & Marketing, CMVMSuzanne Hermiston, Director of Open Studies, Centre for Open Learning Cameron Ritchie, Depute Director and Head of Operations, University Sport and Exercise Sean Smith, Director of the Centre for Future Infrastructure, Institute for Infrastructure and Environment Natalia Gibczynska, Business Services Manager, Estates Business ServicesGemma Gourlay, Head of Social Impact, Social Responsibility and SustainabilityLesley Stokes, Widening Participation Manager, Student Recruitment and AdmissionsAkrit Ghimire, Vice President Community, Edinburgh University Students’ AssociationBeth Munro, Alumni Manager, Engagement, Development and AlumniRachel Bowen, Head of Engagement, College of Science and EngineeringSarah Ford-Hutchinson, Head of SRS Communications, Social Responsibility and SustainabilityStuart Tooley, Head of Public Affairs, Communications and MarketingSarah Anderson, Senior Community Engagement Manager, Social Responsibility and Sustainability If you would like to contact a member of the Community Board, please email local@ed.ac.ukCommunity Board meetings: agenda and minutes Community Board meeting agenda and minutes 202120 January Document Community Board 2021 04 21 (421.4 KB / PDF) Document Agenda - Community Board 2021 01 20 (125.55 KB / PDF) 24 April Document Community Board 2021 04 21 (421.4 KB / PDF) 23 September Document Community Board minutes Sept 2021 (378.68 KB / PDF) 18 November Document Community Board Nov 2021 (388.98 KB / PDF) 202210 February Document Community Board Feb 2022 (633 KB / PDF) 12 May Document Community Board May 2022 (1.31 MB / PDF) 15 September Document Community Board Sept 2022 (893.33 KB / PDF) 1 December Document Community Board Dec 2022 (330.68 KB / PDF) 20238 February Document Community Board Feb 2023 (298.62 KB / PDF) 26 April Document Community Board April 2023 (5.17 MB / PDF) 20 September 2023 (Workshop rather than regular board meeting) Document Community Board September 2023 (133.69 KB / PDF) 20247 February Document Community Board Feb 2024 (842.48 KB / PDF) 24 April Document Community Board April 2024 (565.94 KB / PDF) 202513 FebruaryCommunity Board February 2025.pdf 24 AprilCommunity Board April 2025.pdf 11 SeptemberCommunity Board September 2025.pdf This article was published on 2024-07-22
