Volunteer

If you’re a University of Edinburgh staff member or student, the University and the Edinburgh University Students’ Association can provide you with support in volunteering in the local area.

The University’s A Day to Make a Difference initiative gives every member of staff an additional day of paid leave to volunteer for a charity, organisation or other good cause. To use your day, you need to request it on People and Money and your line manager needs to approve it.

This is covered under the University’s special leave policy. More information will be found in the policy under “Volunteering Activities”.

Staff from the Widening Participation (WP) team, based in Student Recruitment and Admissions (SRA), used their Paid Volunteering leave on Friday 9th June to take part in the Big Sort. Organised by EUSA, the Big Sort sees volunteers sort through items left behind by students in accommodation at the end of their lease. The team sifted through a wealth of items, bagging items that were in a condition to be reused. These items are washed and will be taken to the Free Shop during Welcome Week 2023, where students can pick up the 2nd hand items for free.
