Projects funded in round two of the Community Grants Scheme. Image Heritage Community Map The following projects were funded under round two of our Community Grants scheme, which had a deadline in June 2018. Following evaluation of the first round, the specific aims of the scheme were revised for the second round. The new aims for the second round were to: Increase engagement between the University and local communities. Have a positive social impact. Create learning opportunities (including informal and non-traditional forms of learning). These three aims remain the aims of the Community Grants scheme. Friendship Cafes Hosted by the Welcoming (The Welcoming) Wester Hailes, Craigmillar (EH10, EH16) Friendship Cafes will provide opportunities for local and refugee women to form relationships in a safe and supportive environment, enabling English language learning, sharing cultures, life experience and friendship. Hosted in areas of deprivation, the cafes will offer meaningful voluntary opportunities for locals whilst providing newcomers with a warm welcome. Shaping Your Future (People Know How) Craigentinny (EH7) ‘Shaping Your Future’ will empower the residents of Craigentinny to capitalise on the existing community assets and foster social change to positively impact the lives of everyone living there. Through community consultation, we have identified where the community prioritise improvements, and believe we can drive lasting change in these areas. Tinderbox Collective Youth and Community Engagement Programme – Skills Development Workshops (Tinderbox Collective) Muirhouse (EH4) Tinderbox has a revolutionary approach to orchestras, youth work & creative learning for young people in Edinburgh. Support for our skills development workshops will allow us to give more support to our participants living in disadvantaged areas of North Edinburgh to help them better develop skills for creative musical growth. Plan Bee (Youth Vison) Balerno (EH14) Our aim is to establish a sustainable and natural beekeeping project and corresponding youth development activities. These activities will support Youth Vision’s aims to enhance the connection between vulnerable young people from the Edinburgh area (ages 13 to 24), and the natural environment, while also serving to increase pollinator populations.
