The opportunity to earn while learning provides an insight into what it’s like to work in a university, gain hands-on experience in their chosen field and enhance their employability. Hear from a 2023 Modern Apprentice Jenna Bogan is a Modern Apprentice in Digital Marketing and has been working within the Communications and Marketing Department. During her time with us, she has become a valuable member of the team. Hi, I’m Jenna, and I’m a Digital Marketing Modern Apprentice. I’m completing my apprenticeship here at the University of Edinburgh in the Communication and Marketing department for 18 months. I was interested in doing a Modern Apprenticeship because it’s a great alternative to college or university as you’re gaining a qualification whilst earning money, and it’s a good stepping stone into the industry you’re interested in. My experience so far has been really positive. I am surrounded by lots of people who are always willing to help me and give advice. I enjoy my Digital Marketing course because it’s a mix of knowledge and practical study, and I can apply what I’ve learnt into my job role. Prosper Social Finance is the UK's first student-run investment fund, providing University of Edinburgh students with the opportunity to learn and practice socially responsible investment. In addition to investing in ventures that drive social good, Prosper's profits are given as grants to Edinburgh-based social enterprises. Among these is Invisible Cities - a social enterprise that trains people that have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides of their own cities. My most rewarding experience so far with Prosper has been being able to work with Invisible Cities and see how the decisions we made in pitching stocks can impact and help support the Edinburgh community. Prosper has undoubtedly been the highlight of my time at the University.
