The University has provided a one-off donation to Street Assist, a charity that supports Edinburgh residents who become vulnerable on weekend nights. Image Street Assist volunteers Street Assist volunteers are out every Friday and Saturday night, providing welfare and first-aid in Edinburgh city centre. The project supports the emergency services in Edinburgh, reducing the number of people making unnecessary visits to A&E on a Friday and Saturday night. Street Assist Edinburgh are delighted to have secured this support from the University of Edinburgh, which will help significantly to further the development of the Street Assist initiative. Neil Logan, Co-Founder of Street Assist Edinburgh Public recognition Street Assist has been recognised for its commitment to the community. It has been awarded the Edinburgh Evening News Local Hero Award and The Lord Provost of Edinburgh Inspiring Volunteering Award in the last two years. In November 2018, Street Assist was announced as a Finalist in the prestigious Police Scotland Force Excellence Awards. The winners will be announced at Tulliallan Police College in February 2019. The success of this project so far is mainly due to the very highly skilled and dedicated volunteers, some of whom are University of Edinburgh students who give up their time to make this project possible, supporting people who have become vulnerable for a variety of reasons. We hope through the publicity surrounding the project, both visitors and residents of the City of Edinburgh will know they have a safe place if the need is presented.
