This rather elegant photo features in Body Language, the current exhibition on at the University’s Main Library. Image Drawn from the archives of Scottish Gymnastics, Dunfermline College of Physical Education (DCPE), and the dancer Margaret Morris, Body Language celebrates the work and life of pioneering Scottish females in movement, dance and physical education. The photo features trainee P.E. teachers practising on the rooftop of DCPE. Founded in 1905, DCPE was the first college for female trainee P.E. teachers in Scotland. Filled with film, photographs, gym ware, costumes, and personal mementoes, Body Language will do more than remind you of school gym classes. Rather, it highlights the importance of women in the evolution of our country’s physical education, health, and dance. Body Language is free and runs 26 July – 26 October 10am to 5pm (plus Sundays throughout August). Find it at University of Edinburgh Main Library (ground floor), 30 George Square, EH8 9LJ.
