The University of Edinburgh and their construction partners Balfour Beatty have marked Eid by making a donation to families involved in the Syrian Futures Project. Image Eid celebrations 2020 Overall, £800 was donated to help Syrian refugee families mark the end of Ramadan, through the distribution of supermarket vouchers. Half of the money was donated by Balfour Beatty, who are the construction partners for the University’s new Edinburgh Futures Institute building on Lauriston Place. The Syrian Futures project, based at the Alwaleed Centre, aims to empower Syrian refugees living in Scotland to help them access higher and further education and find their way to fulfilling jobs and careers. The project was founded in 2019 by Nadin Akta. Nadin said: “I am grateful to Balfour Beatty and the University for choosing to mark Eid by donating to the Syrian Futures participants. Eid will be very different this year due to the lockdown, but I hope the donation will help the fantastic participants of the project to have a special weekend.” We are pleased to be working with the University of Edinburgh in supporting the Syrian community access further education and improved employment opportunities.
